Taking My Own Advice
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well advised is wisdom. Proverbs 13:10 NKJV

I think I was about twenty-four years old when I realized most of what my parents and other adults had always said was right. For several years I had been acting as though they were idiots.

As an educated professional and a pastor, sometimes even now, I have a hard time taking advice. Somehow, probably especially as a man, I tend to think that using someone else's opinion makes me look inferior. If I can't personally think for myself, then there must be something wrong with me.

I do recognize that this type of thinking is not Biblical. Throughout the Old and New Testaments we are told to seek wise counsel. Two are better than one, according to Solomon's writings in Ecclesiastes. God has blessed me with many Christian friends, not just to provide me with company, but to offer me advice on the way I should go; to disciple me; and yes, even correct me whe n necessary.

Help us, Lord, not to forsake the Godly instruction of our Christian friends. We thank you for what you can do for us through them!
